Setting many records since the beginning of this competition, we were very happy to find such great enthusiasm, care and interest in the many outstanding business’s, clubs, events, causes, individuals and talents that make our year of riding and cruising, both fun and worthwhile.

Hundreds of worthy causes from fighting cancer to supporting our troops, has helped to make this world of ours a better place to live. Without these nominees and thousands like them across the country and around the world, I would hesitate to wonder what kind of world we would be living in.

Adelina was born to Antonio & Diane Vinciguerra on Dec. 13th, 2005 and Died on March 7th, 2006.
With the recent loss of Adelina Jacqueline Vinciguerra, who passed away from SIDS earlier this year, has come this opportunity to allow the Antonio and Diane the parents of Adelina to continue to introduce Adelina to the world in light of this tragic occurrence. The parents of Adelina, Antonio and Diane Vinciguerra have decided to form Adelina & Friends SIDS Awareness to memorialize the life of their precious daughter Adelina and help support the future parents of children lost to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

Adelina & Friends SIDS Awareness has purchased a brand new Orange County Chopper Motorcycle and will be raffling off the bike on April 14th, 2007, at an all day event to be held at Orange County Choppers Retail Store, located on 17K in Montgomery, NY. The raffle event will include musical performance by OCC The Band as well as personal appearances by the staff of Orange County Choppers. The intention of the raffle is to raise awareness for SIDS in the Hudson Valley, Greater New York and adjoining areas.

Canton Cycles started in a little part of a barn with a dirt floor in 1972. Vietnam was in the news and we were meeting the nicest people on Honda’s. A new BMW set you back about $1800 and the Honda CB750 was one of the fastest bikes out there. Electronic ignition was the most high tech innovation on a bike, though most still had points. A lot of things have changed since then. Canton Cycles added and dropped many different brands over those years. Some, like Vespa and Moto Guzzi, have come back again, to replace BMW and Triumph. We actually have more brands than ever before and our goal now is to sell FUN. That’s what this sport is all about!! We have been a Victory dealer since their debut in 1999. We have the full line of Vespa and Moto Guzzi. We have also added the Piaggio line of scooters. Piaggio is the parent company of Vespa, Moto Guzzi and Aprilla. We just added the Kymco line of ATV’s. Most people don’t know Kymco makes most of the smaller ATV’s for the other large Japanese companies. Their quality is superb. Our newest and coolest acquisition is the Ural sidecar motorcycle from Russia. Granted this is a compilation of smaller niche brands but covers everything from scooters to large bikes and ATV’s to sidecars. Add it all up and it spells FUN!

The building we purchased on Route 44 in Winsted four years ago is working out great for us. It is solid as a rock and as huge as it is, we have filled it to the brim. It is in the heart of the best riding roads around and we are making it a destination for riders of all brands. The coffee is always ready. Our service department is staffed by the same experienced technicians who have been with us for years and are gearing up to service most brands of bikes and ATV’s. The same goes for our parts department. They are doing their best to learn all the other brands as well as snowmobiles. Our sales department is wheeling and dealing our new lines as well as all brands of high quality pre-owned vehicles too. All this can be checked out on our website at www.cantoncycles.com.

With the commencement of a new year, many of us take stock in what we’ve been doing with ourselves, and make resolutions to improve ourselves. I always question this New Year’s Eve concept, wondering why we can’t look back and try to improve ourselves all throughout the year.
This being a legal and not religious column, my emphasis should not be on improvements like quitting smoking or losing weight, as admirable as those things are, but on our legal health and well-being.

“Wait a minute, Gerry”, I can hear you think to yourself, “why do I need a legal new year’s resolution? I’m not some corporate giant?” Well, the answer to that question is already stated in the question. Since you are not a corporate giant, you lack the insight and ability to determine how you are legal-wise, and a professional should be consulted.

Ask yourself these questions: Do I have a will? Do I have a living will or health care directive? Do I know where the deed to my house is, or my divorce decree or custody papers? When I look at my paystub, do I understand what all of those deductions are for? Do I know what I own and what I owe?

While your head is spinning, read on. The best and easiest thing to do is to sit down with your spouse, partner or just with yourself, turn off the television and radio, grab a legal pad and write down the answers to the questions I asked you in the prior paragraph.

It will take some time. Do it right. Open a file and throw copies of important documents into it. Show them to your spouse or partner. It’s like family therapy, just without the psychiatrist.
People nowadays use the computer to store and collate information.

That’s all well and good, but computers are not secure, and they can be tampered with, or just break down. That’s the beauty of the legal pad–it’s yours and yours alone.

I counsel people to write down the answer to this question: “If I disappeared from the face of the earth today, how would my spouse or partner or adult son find out what I own?”

It’s easy to determine what you owe–just go to the mailbox for a month and you will see every debt that you have. But for the stuff that you have collected over the years, it is not so blatant or easy to discern.

Once you have done this homework, look to consult two important professionals: a lawyer and an accountant. Everybody should have one of each. You would be surprised what good counsel I have received from my accountant over the years. Not just concerning tax issues, but things like savings, preparing for college, and old age.

Naturally, having a lawyer in your corner can be of immense assistance when it comes to avoiding troubles, either at home or work. I am called frequently from clients who just want to know what to do about something, an apartment lease, a car loan, or a hospital bill. Sure, lawyers help people with major legal issues like divorce, criminal charges or an estate. But getting good legal advice about something early usually avoids the problem later.

Take the time and make a January resolution to think about yourself by calling your lawyer and accountant and making an appointment to say hello. It will be worth its weight in gold saved.

Another Great Connecticut Tradition began Saturday, November 11th as Danbury Harley Davidson/Buell, Millennium Dental of Brookfield and Valley Dodge of New Milford team up with Don Clady and Connecticut Cruise News for the First Annual Salute to Our Veterans.

Veteran motorcyclist and non motorcyclist alike, from all over the state and parts of New York State, join in this all new celebration. Veterans from all wars, active duty military personnel and all branches of the militaries were represented.

All with a common goal, “A Salute to Our Veterans”.

“We wanted to do something different, unlike other publications which sell ads to businesses or events that have a registration fee”. “We wanted a non monetary, non sponsored Salute to the Veterans”. Don Clady said.

After approaching the owners of Danbury Harley Davidson/Buell, Millennium Dental of Brookfield and Valley Dodge of New Milford, the event was put together, with only one thing in mind, “Our Veterans!”

Danbury Harley Davidson supplied coffee, bangles and cookies for the veterans in the morning as Connecticut Cruise News provided the music for the day and after a short Veterans Ride to Millennium Dental in Brookfield, Millennium Dental treated all the veterans, friends and family
members to hot dogs, hamburgers, soda and other snacks for lunch.

Finishing the day with another short tribute ride to Valley Dodge in New Milford, we were happy to have welcomed hundreds of veterans throughout the day.

It’s a new year Happy New Year, We have had great weather this December and January. I am sure all of us have gotten out at some point, it was 70 on the 1st Saturday of January, unbelievable.

How many can say they had a beautiful ride this time of year.

Had a super busy fall with work and my 3 family property that seems to be taking forever to finish, 2nd and 3rd floors are rented. Went through Hartford Housing inspection on my 2nd floor, I love getting a check for most of the rent but what a pain in my *#@%^ it was to fix and bring the property up to their standards (some weird conditions), nobody returns a phone call, you never deal with the same person twice. Enough bitchen in the end it is rent that is guaranteed
every month on time. The other stuff is minor, good rent is hard to find, good tenants as well as clean tenants are hard to find. What I am saying is that there is a lot of crap that goes with owning rental properties and if you can deal with the b.s. then I would say for you to do it. With a good return comes a lot of work. Most people don’t want to work any more.

The real estate market is changing right now, prices are dropping, it’s more of a buyers market, more and more foreclosures are happening every day. Mortgage companies are changing there guidelines constantly, commercial properties are going down but not compared to residential. A year ago I had 10 companies that would do 100% financing on a 3-4 family investment property, now I have 2 and that may change again. Now you need perfect credit and some money in the bank (what a concept). If you have these and don’t mind a little work then in the next 6 months to a year should be a great time to find a great investment property that will give you a better return than any stock market ever could.
